Renovating the Bishops Tawton bells

The 6 bells at Bishops Tawton needed some 'attention' and so the PCC approved a short renovation.   In the end it was almost two years 1987 - 8 and we had some real 'quality' bells.   Mr Fidler, from Zeal Monachorum, and his daughter were chosen for the project with local help (including me, as Vicar) under the instruction of the Fidlers.   This helped shorten the renovation as well as considerably reducing the cost - nearly £40,000, I think. During the renovation we found some old handbells in the belfry and had them restored by a specialist from Exeter.

The Handbell team started, instructed by a gentleman and lady from Chulmleigh Handbell Ringers. The Bishops Tawton Handbell Ringers are still ringing - you can see them giving a concert at Tawstock in one of the Videos.
